Elinor Osborn
Photography enables me to see details of nature which
remain hidden from casual observation. There are so many
exciting aspects of plants, animals, weather phenomena
etc. to find and new things to learn, that I enjoy being
outdoors more than anything else. My photography includes
a variety of outdoor subjects—natural history, scenics
and outdoor sports. My favorite sports to photograph are
cross country skiing and sled dogs. Documenting
scientists’ work has been fascinating also. I‘m a
published photographer and writer with credits in
magazines, such as Vermont Life, Click, Northern
Woodlands and others , and in many books. Project
UltraSwan, a children’s book which I wrote and
photographed, tells the story of the trumpeter swan
migration project, and is published by Houghton Mifflin.
Several galleries have displayed my work in one person
shows. For my prints, I carefully optimize for color
balance and lighting, then hand print the photographs on
archival Epson paper using archival Ultrachrome inks. I
also am enjoying making painterly-looking prints on
canvas, then framing them without glass. Believing
strongly in preserving our natural heritage, I am a
member of many conservation organizations—National
Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, American
Birding Assn, Xerces Society, The Nature Conservancy and
others.
