Paula Wolcott
Paula Wolcott is a painter who lives in Sugar Hill New
Hampshire with her husband Charles Wolcott. She was born
in Pittsburgh, Pa. and grew up under the artistic
influences of her great grandmother, a landscape painter
who painted in Provencetown, Massachussetts in the
1950’s, and her mother, the late Carole Goldsborough, a
landscape and portrait artist. Her background in art
began at Simon’s Rock College as an art major studying
design and sculpture. Later she went to the Instituto
Allende in Mexico to study weaving and batik, and then to
the Art Student’s League in New York City to study figure
drawing. She studied painting, etching and drawing at
Franconia College where she earned a B.A. in Visual Arts.
She says, “I use color, composition, light and movement
to create a work that has expression and life; I know
I’ve painted something good when it excites and pleases
me. As for subjects, I paint what I love, and that
includes: dogs, snow, dancers, horses, the beach and
Spanish colonial churches”. Shortly following graduation
from Franconia College in 1977, Paula left painting for
fifteen years to become ordained and to work as a
Congregational minister. She is now doing what she loves
most, which is painting full time.
