Jesse LoVasco
Artist Bio/Artist Statement Jesse LoVasco, (formerly
Ahee) studied art, writing and women’s studies in the
Adult Degree Program at Vermont College of Norwich
University where she received her bachelor’s degree in
1999. She held the position of Executive Director of
Studio Place Arts for a short time and served as the
First Night Director in Montpelier for two years. She has
been a member of ARA and The Vermont Arts Council. She
has been curator for Capitol Grounds and currently
curates The Shoe Horn. She spends a great deal of time in
nature. Her work reflects images of the feminine in both
landscapes and figurative work. She finds the same
rhythms in the lines, shapes and fullness of the human
body as she does on a walk in the woods, up a mountain or
along a stream. Pastel gives her flexibility and the
ability to be spontaneous. She prefers to work with thick
pigment on matte board to give it that oil rich texture.
Living in Vermont enhances all my senses. I am inspired
by the beauty of the people, the mountainous landscape
and the changing seasons. Each piece reflects the stories
of my life in some way, where I have been and what I
choose to see. Most of my art has been incubating for
years in the closet. It’s time to expose and release
them.
