Isabel Weinger Nielsen
Isabel Weinger Nielsen, a resident of Northfield, Vermont
since 1989 has been “taking pictures” for as long as she
can remember. She was encouraged at age 4 by the
photographer Cornell Capra who said he had “never seen
such a little girl with such a steady hand”. Her earliest
influences were her father, family photo albums, and LIFE
magazine. At Kirkland College in Clinton, New York,
Isabel studied creative writing and spent hours in the
darkroom developing black & white photos, as well
assisting with public relations for the college’s Arts
Division. Over the years, her photographs have included a
variety of subjects, including children, nature, sports,
theater productions and family life cycle events. Isabel
has exhibited her photographs in Vermont, most recently
at the Northfield Art Show. She says “My photographs are
portraits of people, flowers, landscapes, or abstracts. I
compose in the camera and do little editing. I want to
capture moments when colors, shapes and details are in
balance; I want to translate what I see into something
that I can share.” Her “day job” is as Administrative
Assistant at Norwich University and she is on the Board
of the Paine Mountain Arts Council. She spent many years
working part time at the Brown Public Library in
Northfield, has done writing and photography for The
Northfield News, as well as freelance writing, editing,
and book indexing. She is happy to be surrounded by
family and friends in Vermont who are often the subjects
of her photos, including husband Lars Nielsen, son Noah
Nielsen (UVM ‘10), mother Lucille Weinger, and many
Nielsen family members. Other influences include son Ari
Nielsen (now living in Madison, WI) and the extended
Weinger family from East to West Coast. Photographs are
available as photo cards or enlargements. Please call or
e-mail with inquiries. Isabel Weinger Nielsen 210 Water
